Yass Junior Roos |
Gala Day 25-07-2009 (Deakin)The under 9s also participated in the Gala day at Deakin, with 2 games being played, the first against Tuggeranong Bulldogs and second Calwell Swans. Once again the school holidays played havoc with numbers and the 9s relied on fill in players Daniel and Dylan ( the league boys) to field a team. These two players should be congratulated on their fantastic sportsmanship as they shared the ball around all the players and their unselfishness allowed Brendon and Conner to score their first goal of the season. Well done Daniel and Dylan. Bailey, Kobi – Dean and Jayden continued their fine form from the earlier under 12s game and controlled the ball well in all zones. Jordan took several great marks during the game, while Abi showed great enthusiasm while hustling for the ball. Rheese displayed outstanding defensive skills with great marking and chasing the ball for possession. Thanks to Greg and Dave for your efforts on the day and to the parents who stayed in the cool weather. Round 8 v Belconnen Panthers 27-06-2009 (Aranda)The yass roos under 9’s played Belconnen Panthers at Aranda. Their new jerseys looked fantastic. Thank you to our sponsors Your Asset Solutions and Regional Valuers Yass. This team is definitely one to watch in the future . With plenty of athleticism and ability on the field they just need more game time. If they can stick together next season they will be a force to be reckoned with. Jayden Perceval and Rheece Payne have made an easy transistion between footy codes while Kobi Dean Price has found his niche in the footy world. The Roos regulars Bailey Haskins, Jordan Hudson and George Elliot continue to have strong games in all areas while relative new comers to the game Jack Glavas-Cartwiright, Brendon Bolten, Liam Loyd Price, Patrick O’Connell and Abi Grear are improving each week. Conner Stevens who recently joined the tean from the under 8’s has fitted in well both on and off the field. No information on awards was available this week but it would not be an easy job to select only a few amongst this talented group. Round 7 v Gungahlin White 20-06-2009 (Aranda)Gungahlin Whites were the opponents for the mighty under 9 Roos this week at Aranda. Rheese Payne was man of the match this week with an outstanding all round performance; a goal, 3 excellent marks and the saving of two opposition goals. Jack Cartwright-Glavas defended well and hit the upright just missing his first major for the season. Connor Stevens is handling the step up from the under 8s and is really enjoying his football and the older kids skills. Brendan Bolton and Patrick O’Connell defended well throughout the game and are two of the big improvers of the team. Liam Lloyd-Price and George Elliott were doing their usual harassment of the opposition and defended and attacked extremely well. The experienced Jordan Hudson and Bailey Haskins had strong all round games and the team is learning of these two exceptional players. Jayden Perceval improves every week and is benefiting from pairing up with Bailey. The Subway coach’s award for best on ground was Rheese Payne and the McDonald’s Encouragement awards were earned by Patrick O’Connell and George Elliott. Gala Day 31-05-2009 (Deakin)It was gala day for the Yass Junior Roos under 9s with 2 games played against Calwell Swans and Queanbeyan Tigers. Jordan Hudson, Bailey Haskins and Jayden Perceval were the 6 point goalers with ten between them for the day and Kobi-dean Price slotted thru several behinds during the course of the day. Abi Grear and Brendan Bolton took several marks, handballed strongly and chased hungrily for the ball all day. George Elliott and Liam Lloyd-price were as usual everywhere picking up the crumbs, marking and getting the ball in to good field position. Rheese Payne and Jack Cartwright-Glavas defended well and moved the ball through the centre of the field linking the backs to the forwards. Connor Stevens played two games in the morning with the 8’s and was keen to make the numbers up in the 9’s, playing two more games. Connor was not out of his depth and defended and marked strongly. The whisper after the game was he is keen to stay with the 9s and will be more than welcomed to the team. The Subway coach’s award for best on ground for the day was Jordan Hudson and McDonald’s Encouragement awards were earned by Jack Cartwright-Glavas and Brendan Bolton in the first game. Connor Stevens and Rheese Payne picked up the second games rewards. The Roos have a general bye this weekend but will still train on Wednesday night at 4:30pm. Round 4 v Ainslie White 23-05-2009 (Joe O'Connor Park)The Yass Junior Roos under 9’s had their first home game of the season taking on the visiting team from Ainslie white. In their most impressive display of the season the team was simply outstanding. Kicking and handballing to each other like professionals. Rheese Payne scored a great goal under pressure and added a behind for a good effort with an injured ankle. Jayden Percival goaled two with big kicks from near centre field, took 4 marks and combined beautifully with Bailey Haskins who scored one himself and marked well. Jordan Hudson kicked the goal of the day and defended on goal exceptionally well saving several opposition goals and took 6 marks. Patrick O’Connell was superb in defence positioning himself between kicker and receiver and chased the ball all day, picking up 2 marks. Abi Grear took a couple of marks and handballed to her fellow players in better kicking positions setting up several raids downtown. Kobi-Dean Price had his booming kicking game happening and picked up a major and 2 marks. The Subway coach’s award went to Abi Grear and the Encouragement award was earned by Patrick O’Connell. A busy weekend coming up for the under 9’s, playing at Manuka Oval on Saturday at halftime of the Swans versus Bulldogs game. To say the kids are excited is an understatement. Our own Bailey Haskins is the Swans mascot for the day and will lead the team out before the big game. Then Sunday at Deakin playing fields its Auskick Pro gala day where the north and south divisions of Canberra assemble together for a huge day of football. The 8’s and 9’s will play 2 games on the day back to back. Round 2 v Ainslie 09-05-2009 (Kippax)The under 9s ventured to Holt to play Ainslie. The team welcomed two new members Brendon Bolten and Patrick O’Connell. The team displayed a huge improvement in skills from the previous week but were no match for the much more experienced Ainslie team. The team is responding well to the training sessions and with a few more games under their belts will see a further improvement on the scoreboard. (That is the imaginary one , because we all know that officially there isn’t one) To the Junior Roos credit they never stopped trying and should be congratulated on their fantastic team spirit. Full team: Kobi -Dean Price , Jordan Hudson , Jayden Perceval , Liam Lloyd –Price Jack Cartwright, George Elliot, Rheese Payne, Patrick O’Connell and Brendon Bolten. This weeks ‘Subway” coaches award went to George Elliot. Round 1 v Belconnen Cougars 02-05-2009 (Amaroo)The Yass Junior Roos Under 9’s travelled to Amaroo for their game against Belconnen Cougars. With only three players backing up from last year it was a test for the newly formed team. What a great effort they gave and what a pleasure to watch the game. It was hard to tell if the players or the parents were more excited. The players excelled in all positions with highlights being the strong kicking game of Kobi-Dean Price , Jordan Hudson and Jayden Perceval, the defensive efforts of Liam Lloyd–Price and Bailey Haskins as well as the great hustling of Jack Cartwright, George Elliot, Rheese Payne and Abi Grear in the centres.
The whole team played with great enthusiasm and should be very proud of there first effort on the field. This weeks ‘Subway” coaches award went to Bailey Haskins for his consistent effort in all areas of the game. Encouragement awards were given to George Elliot and Liam Lloyd-Price. |
