These teams play a modified version of the game focusing on skill development and team work. This age group is a joy to watch with their never ending energy and enthusiasm for the game of AFL. There will be plenty of action so come along and check out the AFL stars of the future. A bbq and full canteen will be running so make a day of it.
Sydney Swans Training Day
On Fri 11th June 9 Yass Junior Roos ventured to Manuka Oval in Canberra to attend the Sydney Swans skills sessions. Josh Kemp, Jeremy Bush, Jacob Davison, Patrick Morton, Ryan and Reece Payne, Lachie McMillan, Brody Anderson Huw Williams and the biggest Swans fan in Yass Brenton Showell attended the session.

The players were put through 4 different drills with the Sydney swans players and had the opportunity to display their kicking and marking skills to the crowd. After the drills the Yass boys keenly lined up for their share of Swans free giveaways. They received posters, magnets, magazines and some were lucky enough to grab a cap or drink bottle. The Yass boys mingled with the Swans players getting autographs and having a chat about all things AFL. Overall it was a great afternoon, the Yass Juniors had an awesome time especially super swan Brenton. Thank you to the parents who drove the boys over to Canberra for the afternoon.
Umpires in Training
Josh Kemp and Jeremy Bush from the Yass Junior Roos Under 14s team have ventured into the world of AFL umpiring . They attended there first training session in Canberra this week in preparation for Boundary Umpire duties at the Senior Roos home games.
The boys were made very welcome at the training session and are full of confidence about their first official game in a few weeks. It is great to see some of the younger players starting to give back to the game already. The boys hope to keep working on their boundary umpiring skills for a few years before being old enough to move onto the Canberra AFL field umpiring mentor program.
