Yass Junior Roos
Under 10s Match Reports 2010

Round 3 v Ainslie 16-05-2010 (Majura)

In the absence of Coach Janine, it was up to the dads to guide and encourage the under 10s Yass Roos this weekend in Canberra.  Kobi-Dean Price took the field for the first time this season, coming back after injury to never give up, chasing hard, looking for team mates and adding to the goal count.

Rheese Payne and Jordan Hudson kicked early goals, with Jordan receiving an encouragement award for staying on his feet and getting the ball under pressure. Jack Cartright-Glavis also received an encouragement award for great passing, marking and attempts at goals. George Elliot tackled well, even after getting a ball in the face, receiving the coaches’ award. Ryan Payne had a consistent and excellent defensive game and Liam Lloyd-Price continued his fabulous ducking and weaving his way around the opposition. Anthony Doolan always shows tremendous skills and was in a number of team efforts to score goals. Overall, the boys played well as a team, generously helping the opposition with players and showing a great sporting spirit.

Round 2 v Gungahlin Black 08-05-2010 (Ngunnawal)

The under 10s Yass Roos kicked off to a flying start against Gungahlin Blacks, with Gage Stinson putting in the first goal under intense pressure. Gage continued to play like a champion, getting the ball out of the ruck and moving it along, earning him an encouragement award. Rheese Payne received the other encouragement award, with great work in the centre. Jordan Hudson and Jack Cartright-Glavas were fantastic in defence, saving a number of sure goals at the posts. Bailey Haskins continues to bring great all round skills to the game and Anthony Doolan came back to the field after injury to add to the score. While George Elliot and Liam Lloyd-Price are among the smaller players, they continue to show immense courage, going after the ball with seemingly no self-preservation. The coach's award went to Ryan Payne, who consistently took fantastic marks, putting his body on the line for his team. Coach Janine Haskins and all the parents applauded these boys who played like a team who had been together longer than the two games played, and show endless determination and enthusiasm.

Round 1 v Belconnen Cats 01-05-2010 (Joe O'Connor Park)

The under 10s Yass Roos (AFL) hit the field for the first time this season, with a home game. While the opposition, Belconnen Cats kicked an early goal, the Roos tenacity and teamwork eventually won the day. Liam Lloyd-Price was awarded the coach's award due to his fast footwork and good defensive play. Anthony Doolan has just joined Yass Roos and his previous AFL experience showed with beautiful clearing kicks and good passing game. Connor Bush was another new starter, receiving an encouragement award for unselfish teamwork and goal scoring. The experienced trio of Bailey Haskins, Jordan Hudson and George Elliot have returned for another season, sending numerous goals through the posts, with George taking the mark of the match. Brothers Ryan and Rheese Payne both took fantastic defensive marks, and together with the secure hands of Gage Stinson and Jack Cartwright-Glavas displayed great teamwork, assisting in many goals. As coach Janine Haskins declared “we rock!”.
