Yass Junior Roos |
Round 3 v St Edmunds 16-05-2010 (Joe O'Connor Park)The Yass Roos under 14s played a great game of AFL against St Edmunds, recording their first win of the season. New coach Darren was on hand to see the boys in action and to assist the outgoing coach Matt Jamieson. The improvement in team play was outstanding with connections being made across the field throughout the whole game. The team's confidence lifted within the opening minutes when they were first to score and the team never looked back. The centres cleared the ball well and dominated in the ruck. The young Roo forwards were kept busy with plenty of possession turning into points. The Backs had a quieter game but still increased the pressure on the opposition when required. It was fantastic to see the team run off the field at full time with huge smiles on their faces and to finally hear the team song. Manager's award – Jarrod Forlonge. Round 2 v Qbn Tigers 08-05-2010 (Town Park)The team travelled to Queanbeyan this week to play the Queanbeyan Tigers. Both teams were short on numbers fielding teams of 15 for the contest. The Yass Roos played like a completely different team from the week before. Their positive attitude and hunger for the ball was a highlight of the game. All team members enjoyed the game and showed a huge improvement in their skill level. Lachie J, Jarrod and Haiden performed well in the ruck area. The trio of Josh, Bronte and Brenton managed the pressure in the backs saving many goals. Maddie, Jacob and Andrew had all-round great games while Zac, Dylan and Jeremy did some great tackling. Sam, Lachie Mc and Lachlan L played with increased confidence attacking the ball at every opportunity. The scoreboard didn’t go our way again this week but the coach and parents were so impressed with the way the young roos played the game. Scoring shots were made by Haiden, Lachie Mc, Lachie J, Brenton and Jeremy. Manager’s award went to Maddie for her consistent play throughout the whole game. Encouragement awards went to Lachie J, Jeremy and Josh. Thanks this week to Nick Mossop for running the messages, Ben Jamieson – water boy, Marcus Showell – goal umpire and Colleen Bush for running the boundary. Colleen even went to the extra effort of trying to knock herself out with one of the throw ins, the ball went high but not very far. Round 1 v Magpies 01-05-2010 (Joe O'Connor Park)The team took to the field with the majority of last season’s players and several new faces for the game against 2009 Premiers Belconnen Magpies. Welcome to the Junior Roos, Bronte Haskins, Maddy Lansdowne , Lachlan Lansdowne, Haiden Bush, and Jarrod Furlonge. The first game of the season was a tough one with the opposition giving the Young Roos a lesson in how to play the game. The game was very one sided with the Roos not hungry enough to fight for possession and field position. Positives may have been few but nothing should be taken away from our new recruits who in their first game of AFL showed the remainder of the team all about perseverance and team spirit. A committed approach to training and the game this week is vital if the team is to improve on the scoreboard. Manager's Pick Best on Ground awards went to Haiden Bush, Jacob Davison and Jarrod Furlonge. A big thank you to Wayde Chalmers who volunteered his time to umpire the game, Nick Mossip for being the teams runner, Bailey Haskins for being water boy, Peter McClaren for looking after the boundary and Jason Anderson for controlling the flags. |
