Roos win the First Semi Final

The Roos will take on Belconnen next week in the Preliminary Final after defeating Cootamundra in the knockout Semi. Goulburn have the week off as they prepare for the Grand Final. See the full report.

Roos in the Finals again!

Saturday's win oner ADFA capped of another good season by the Roos especially in the run-up to the finals. The Roos will play in the elimination Semi Final on Sunday 22 August at 12 noon. The game will be played at Football Park Phillip and the Roos are confident of going all the way to the Grand Final this year.
Last year the Roos were beaten in the same Semi by Murrumbidgee to end the season in fourth place but this year sees a new lineup taking the field and the buzz is that the result will be better this year. Good Luck to the team next week. It would be great to see all our supporters at the final to cheer on the boys as they strive for the win that will see them one step closer to the premiership. Go Roos.

A Cavalcade of Stars at Fancy Dress (10 July)

Celebrities and movie characters galore turned out for the Roos Fancy Dress Karaoke night. Tom Hanks was there in his Castaway role with Mr Wilson as well. Ace Ventura (Pet Detective) was looking particularly stylish with Miss Shagwell in company and William Wallace left no-one in any doubt as to what is under a scotsman's kilt (and how big it is!!). Cleopatra was certainly looking well pleased with William's attributes. Gandalf the White kept all the company under his spell and GI Jane made sure nobody got out of line. Other's to attend were Wilma (Fred Flintstone's missus), Pinnochio (he was a real boy!), Snow White, Dr Evil and Mini Me and a very under-dressed Frank en Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Steve Irwin was also there wrestling crocodiles and Wlliam Wallace (it was difficult to tell which was bigger; the crocodile or William). Ali G also took time out of his busy schedule to put in an appearance and sing a few songs as well.

Numbers were a little down on expectations but those in attendance had a great time and plenty of opportunity to exercise the tonsils and strut their stuff on the dance floor. Thanks to GI Jane for her organising on the night and the catering.

Trivia Night Goes Off! (19 Jun)

Following on from the success of the Cocktail Party the week before, ten teams took to the tables in a tense struggle of shear useless knowledge. At least seventy people were on hand to pit their trivia stockpile against the quizmaster. It was a great night. Nothing much separated the teams and it was a four way battle at the head of the field. The Goulburn Hawks led early from the Barry Halls with the Piranhas and Unknowns hot on their heels.
At the end of the night the Unknowns had worn down the opposition to take the gong with the Barry Halls in second place. The DGAS won the encouragement award but maybe their team name had something to do with their performance (Don't Give A S***). The other teams that competed were the BIIKs (Buggered If I Know), Flo's Mob, Buster's Brainwaves, No Frills (No Names) and Bangers & Mash.
The competition was fierce but played in good spirit. The quizmaster was only queried on a couple of answers but as always he is always right even when he is wrong (just like umpires). One player (not metioning any names Joel) even had the cheek to refer to the quizmaster as a white maggot. The quizmaster decided to ignore the jibe and impose no penalty as Joel was handicapped enough and pity stayed his hand.
In other events on the night we learnt that Robbie C is a good tosser and he picked up a magnum of Chardonnay for his prowess. Rob 'Red Baron' Field can also make a paper aeroplane that could take on an FA/18 Fighter Jet for speed and accuracy. His plane took first place in the distance event for A4 blue paper aeroplanes with a straight line distance of approximately 15 metres. Dave Willo was second and Mick French flew in third. Mick said later that he thought it was a bit unfair that his piston-engined plane had to be up against the jet-powered beasts of the younger generation but he was happy to get third.
A big thank you to all who attended from the organisers. The quizmaster was really chuffed to see so many there enjoying the night. Thankyou to Corrine and Claire for helping run the event and to Andrew, Denise and Connie for keeping everyone's tonsils lubricated.

Player Auction sets New Record

The Player and Memorabilia Auction night on the 3 April was another great success with a record amount being raised. Due to the incredible generosity of player's families, friends and team sponsors more than $5000 was spent on players alone. This will give a weekly prize in the Player's Player competition of $240 and the club will receive around $1500. The combination of young Hamish Scroope and Jamie White brought in the top money of the night going for $625.

As well as this, the fine items of sporting memorabilia fetched very good prices on the night with more than $6500 being pledged. The night would have to be ranked as a tremendous success and a huge thank you goes out to all those who supported the club through this direct injection of funds.

Thank you to Eilleen, Tory, Leanne and Corrine for the wonderful dinner, Gerard for recording and monitoring the financials, Robbie for a sterling job as MC and Steve for the terrific tonsil work on the Auction. Also thank you to Andrew and the staff at the Yass Golf Club for making the evening run smoothly and setting up tables, etc.

It was really nice to see the players go to a little trouble to dress for the occasion with plenty of ties in evidence. Some of the methods of wearing them may have been a little unorthodox (the tie usually goes outside the collar Leigh) but the effort did not go unnoticed. Everyone had a good time and the excitement of the auction was very much the highlight of the night. A top night and great kick-off to the seasons social events and fund raising.
