Round 14 Yass v Cooma (16 July Cooma)Seventeen players made the journey to Cooma for the first clash with the mountain men for a couple of years. The first round match was forfeited by Cooma and the Roos were keen to not let the lack of numbers influence the outcome of the game. In blustery but sunny conditions Cooma were kicking with the wind (estimated at a 4-5 goal advantage) in the first quarter but the Roos managed to go to to the quarter time break only 1 goal down (Cooma 3-1-19 to Yass 2-1-13). The second quarter was one way traffic when the Roos put on 2 goals 2 behinds and Cooma were kept scoreless. This set the scene for a concerted effort by the Roos in the 3rd quarter to try to restrict Cooma using the wind advantage. The 3rd quarter break saw the score at Cooma 7-7-49 to Yass 7-4-45 but the Roos were confident that with the wind they could get the win. The final score was Yass 11-9-75 defeating Cooma 8-8-56. Brendan Foran took the Player's Player award with David Field runner up. Ben Serafin and Ben Scroope played great games as well. In fact all 17 players put in a supreme effort to take the win from Cooma at home considering Cooma also had a full bench to work with. Well done team. This makes 4 wins in a row with victory over ADFA, Gungahlin, Harman and now Cooma. Let's hope the boys can keep up the momentum and also get some more players on the paddock for the coming games. Round 6 Yass v ANU (15 May ANU)ANU 16-12-108 def Yass 2-8-20. This one was always going to be tough taking on the top of the table team. The Roos performed really well although the score may not look like it. ANU were frustrated all day and probably expected to win by an even greater margin. The Roos are working very hard out there and with team numbers down all year so far are doing a great job. Round 5 Yass v Cootamundra (7 May Yass)Coota wins 100 to 87. The one that got away. A super last quarter fight back after going to sleep in the third quarter got the Roos in front but unfortunately Coota had a little more in the Tank to get them home. It was a fantastic game for the spectators with never more than 3 goals in it. A good close match played in true sporting spirit. Both teams are to b congratulated on a fine spectacle of footy action. Round 4 Yass v Belconnen (1 May Jamison)Belconnen 16-12-108 def Yass 10-13-73. Round 3 Yass v Cooma (23 Apr Yass)Disappointingly Cooma has had to forfeit the match due to lack of numbers. This gives Yass the four points but no much needed match practice. A training match was played with a get together BBQ at the Golf Club afterwards. Round 2 Yass v Goulburn (16 Apr Goulburn)Goulburn win 22-9-141 to Yass 12-10-82.
