Presentation Night - Big Year for Brendan

Brendan Foran, captain of the Yass Roos had a stellar year in 2006. Second in the league's Best and Fairest by one vote he went on to take the Player's Player award and the Best and Fairest for the Yass Roos. His stepping down from the coaching role to concentrate on his playing certainly paid off with an excellent year of personal achievement.

Runner-up was Daniel Smith, only one vote ahead of Ryan Cox who also took out the most improved player award. These two young players who are now key players for the future. Also recognised for fine year of effort was Adrian Paull who won the Coaches Award. Matt Jamieson took the goal kicking award despite some late pressure from the full back Adrian Paull who made the most of his late season opportunity at full forward.

The training awards saw Daniel Smith and Adrian Paull take out the award for attendance and Brendan took the Golden Boot for 2006 with his consistent accuracy over the season at training.

Gerard Kerin was the Club Person of the Year for his continued contributions behind the scenes, his work this year as sceretary and his efforts to make things happen on the day.

The great news of the evening was that Terry Lemon will again be at the helm in coaching the Roos in 2007. He is looking forward to a big improvement over this season and has already got a squad training over the summer. He is also actively recruiting and has let it be known he is quietly confident of a very strong playing group next year.

Congratulations to all. I can't wait for next season.

Player and Memorabilia Auction sets record (25-03-2006)

As it did last year, the Player and Memorabilia Auction raised more money than any previous year. The gross amount raised topped $11,500 and this will see a weekly prize pool for player owners this year of $310. In a change to the format for awards this year the Players Player owner will receive $210 each week and the owner of the player awarded the Opposition Pick of the Pack will get $100. This will open the field for even more owners to share in the rewards of their generosity.

The Roos are extremely grateful and pass on their thanks to all the sponsors and supporters who spent their cash on the night. Thanks also to our guest auctioneer, Ashley Clark, who stepped in on short notice and did a fine job on the night.

Trial Match Success (25-03-2006)

The only trial hit-out for the Roos before the season gets underway on April 1 was played against Goulburn on 25 March at O'connor Park. The 2006 Roos showed a clean pair of heels for most of the game to take the match 18-13-121 to 10-6-66 with plenty of players showing great form.

The Roos may finally have found a full forward with Matt Jamieson having a day out kicking a fine 10 goals 3 behinds and always provided a great lead to the centres who delivered regularly off the winning form of Dave Willersdorf in the ruck.

Discussion after the game by the brains trust reckoned it would have been difficult to award best and fairest points if this was a competition game because so many players put in excellent performances. Terry was particularly pleased to note that training lessons were being used successfully and the team was really starting to play as a team.

Can't wait for the real action to start.

New Coach for Yass Roos 2006

Although definitely not new to the Club, Terry Lemon will be calling the shots as coach for 2006. Terry has been assistant to both Ian and Brendan, our previous caoches, and active on game days as sideline coach for Brendan Foran over the last two years. Brendan has decided to step down from the coaching role to concentrate on playing for 2006 and will captain the side this year.

Terry is looking forward to coaching the boys and the team is already excited about this year's prospects as pre-season training gets under way very soon. Some new faces will take the field and some familiar ones will return. Good Luck to the Roos in 2006.
