AGM Fails to fill all Committee VacanciesWell we have a President and some general committee members and a major sponsor but there were no takers for Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Public Officer. At least we did get a quorum this time (just). Your club needs you. Anyone interested in filling these important roles in our club should get in touch with Steve Scroope (President) or any of the outgoing executive or just turn up at the next committee meeting on 13 Nov 7:30pm at the Aussie Hotel. If we can't even put a committee together what hope have we got. Liam wins League Best & Fairest -Congratulations!!Liam Brandon capped off a stellar year with the Roos by taking the T.W. Campbell Medal for the AFL Canberra Division 2 Best and Fairest Player. Having already sewn up the League goalkicking award he was stunned when his name was then read out as the Best and fairest winner at the Award ceremony in Canberra recently. Liam had already collected the Roos goalkicking award, Players Player and Best and Fairest at the annual presentation dinner on Friday 14 Sep. Liam has had an outstanding year with the Roos and although we would love to have him back again next year it seems he may be moving on to Perth to try his luck in the far west. On behalf of the club I wish him well and know that he will be an asset to whichever club secures him as a player and member. He also knows that if he does decide to be around next year the Roos would love to have him back on the field. The Roos presentation night was a great success at the Soldiers Club and the one or two Collingwood fans appreciated the big screen setup to watch the nail-biter against west Coast. The Most Improved trophy went to Lloyd Scroope, the Coach's Award to Brett Curtis and joint Runners-up in the Best and Fairest went to Brendan Foran and Leigh French. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to Mel Carter and Wendy Waters for their service on game days looking after injured players. The Clubperson of the Year was awarded to Brendan Foran for his tireless efforts both on and off the field. Another successful year was celebrated with plenty of optimism for 2008. Also a big thank you to all the Roos sponsors for 2007 and we hope to have you back on board for 2008. Last Game of the SeasonWell the result of the Belconnen v ANU game didn't go our way with Belconnen scraping home with the win by 5 points so despite another big win to the Roos over Harman we finished 5th on the ladder. 2007 would still have to go down as a successful year with arguably the most talented side on the field that the Roos have put together since they began. If this squad can stay together for next year then watch out for the Roos in 2008. It is very hard to find a position that is not equal to or better than any in the league on their day. The Roos set a few new club records this year: Our highest score (39-13-247), our biggest winning margin (246 over Eastlake), Most goals kicked by an individual player (73, Liam Brandon also winning the league goal kicking award) and a win/loss record of 12/6. Well done team. Take a break, stay fit over summer and let's get amongst it early next year! See you at presentation night. Raffles and the Social SceneA couple of wood raffles will be conducted over the next month or so. Tickets will be on sale at home games and in Comur St on Saturdays for a trailer load of wood. It's only a dollar a ticket. Also look out for the giant bottle of Jim Beam at the Aussie and get some tickets in that raffle as well. It will be drawn at the Sportsmans Dinner on 4 August. The Trivia Night is on 14 July at the Bowlo (7:00pm). The Sportsmans Dinner with Tommy Hafey and Peter Daicos is going to be awesome at the Soldiers Club 4 August. Sponsors Day will be the last home and away game of the season at Joe O'Connor Park. The game is against Harman. Sponsors are cordially invited to come along and enjoy the Roos hospitality tent and cheer on the team. Put it in the diary now. A date has yet to be fixed for the Presentation Dinner but we are looking at around late August/early September. Jammo calls it a dayIn some bad news recently Matt Jamieson has hung up the boots prematurely due to serious knee damage. An injury sustained in the Eastlake game and scans of his knee has revealed extensive ligament damage and he is in for reconstructive surgery soon. Jammo who was looking forward to finishing his footy career with a couple of more years with the Yass Roos has decided that enough is enough and with a young family to care for the brain should rule the heart and the boots should be put away. He will still be heavily involved in footy however with his junior coaching role with the Under Tens and his committee work. Once the knee has recovered I am sure you will see him active on game day as well (there's always a day-glo yellow shirt available). Thanks for your efforts, motivation and skills Jammo. Its a shame to end your career this way especially as this year was getting off to such a great start but we will all appreciate your continued input to the club. Good luck with the surgery. A Roos Day off!A couple of the Roos travelled over to Canberra last Saturday to watch the Junior Roos U10s play their match at Reid Oval. The seniors weren't playing due to a forfeit from ADFA and Matt Jamieson (Roos Full Forward), who moonlights as the U10s coach, was a little under done on crutches from his injury against Eastlake so Batman, Frenchy and Poido were there to lend a hand and offer some encouragement. By all accounts it was a great day and the weather was perfect. The U10s, as usual, put in a sterling effort on the field.
Danny Battye, (Matt Jamieson), Leigh French and Daniel Poidevin pose for a photo opportunity with the Yass Junior Roos U10s after the big match. Well done lads and also thanks to Matt Jamieson for his dedication to not only play for the Roos but also coach the Juniors. New Look for RoosWatch out for the new footy jumpers in 2007. I haven't seen them yet but its supposed be a very cool design. Still blue white and grey but very different. New white shorts with grey and blue stripes as well. I can't wait. Trial GamePlans are still underway for a pre-season game. Unfortunately the Campbelltown game had to be called off but Terry is keen to get a match for 24 March before the Player Auction. More news as it comes to hand. Training is underway for 2007Terry Lemon will be calling the shots again as coach for 2007 and has the boys out on the training track already. Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:00pm at O'Connor Park during Daylight Saving is the place to be. I joined the team for 1 session and that was enough. I know now why I retired last year. It was great to get a footy back in hand again though. Numbers have been good so far but more are always welcome. If you have been putting off getting fit for footy; Don't. The team would love to see some more players keen for a game of Aussie Rules. Come and join the torture, whoops, I mean pre-season training. I'll be there (on the sidelines cheering you on).
