Sero Joins the 100 Club (13-07-2009)

Ben Serafin, this year's Captain/Coach, celebrated his 100 game milestone with the Roos on the weekend when he lead the team to victory over Belconnen (see match Report). Ben is only the second player to achieve 100 games in the club's short history and I'm sure he will remember the day for long time after the team delivered and emphatic victory to make the after game celebrations even better.

Congratulations Ben. Your loyalty to the club despite opportunities elsewhere is commendable and your mates love to have you out there. Here's to many more matches with the Roos.

Three-peat a Question too far!

The Roos Trivia Team were out for a three-peat win at the Yass Magpies Trivia Night on Saturday 11 July. After much fuss in the local press and a call to arms from the Magpies it was a nerve wracking night. An early setback with penalty points for an incorrect Who Am I answer put the Roos on the back foot and the Magpie teams relaxed a little, thinking the win was in the bag.

After some scoreboard corrections and scrutiny of the scoring system it turned out that the Roos were running in fourth place (out of 13 teams) with 2 rounds and a Who Am I to go. Thanks to a brilliant educated guess by Storky in the Who Am I, the Roos picked up maximum points and one of the leading teams were penalised maximum points with an incorrect guess. With that and some excellent scores in the last two rounds the Roos leapt from 4th to 2nd place. No win, but no disgrace either. Needless to say the winning Magpie team were ecstatic.

It was a terrific night of friendly(?) competition between the codes. A highlight for the Roos was getting the second highest score in the Yass Magpies category, beating 7 other teams in the competition. Thanks to the team of Wayde and Corrine Chalmers, John and Cally Foran, Gerard Kerin, Peter Foran, Brett Curtis and Sarah Donnelly. Well done. Roll on next year when the Roos will be back to put the wind up the Magpies again. Thanks also to the organisers for a challenging set of questions and plenty of fun.

The Fox Terrier Needs Match Reports!

Now in retirement, family commitments will mean the Fox Terrier won't be able to get to as many games as usual. If anyone wants to throw ink at paper or electrons at the screen and come up with some match reports I would really appreciate it. Email them through and I will gladly publish with full credit to all authors. It would certainly make this site more interesting to read some one else's view.

Please give a thought while you watch the game to scribbling down a few notes and forwarding them to me. Thanks.

New Signings add talent to Roos (11-05-2009)

Several new players this year have added some talent to an already strong line-up for the Roos. If we can ever get them all on the paddock at the same time it should make for a formidable combination.

It is quite gratifying to see the numbers on the books given the struggle at the start of the year just to decide if the Roos would continue. Look out for the new blokes and make them welcome. Our current list of new Roos includes Cameron Attwell, Nathan Potts, Tim Stevens, Justin Smith, Craig Smith, Minh Ha, Damon Phillipa, Cian Ebert, Mick Hadley, Aaron Campbell, Ben Pryor and Phil Keel. All are capable of making good contributions to the playing strength of the Roos and it is great to have them on board for 2009.

The Fox Terrier has heard that there may still be a couple more names added to the list soon. Watch this space.

Player Auction and other stuff (19-04-2009)

It's been a while since I got to reporting so I should bring things up to date. A tumultuous pre-season has seen several changes. Ben Serfin has taken on the coaching duties after Terry's resignation and Adrian Paull is assisting. Both will still maintain a playing role as well. Training has moved to Winter mode at Victoria Park under lights from 6:30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.

From near extinction due to lack of players the Club has bounced back with several new signings and the return of several past players. It will still be the usual ring-around to get players for some weeks but at least the team is out there for another season and keen to defend the premiership.

The annual Player Lottery was well patronised again with 25 player options sold on the night. Full details of the 2009 player owners are on the team page. The club is delighted with the support shown and thanks all those who shelled out the folding stuff. Lucky winners for the first game were the Morgan/Cox syndicate. They picked Adrian Paull who had been voted Player's Player for the match against Gungahlin so they received the weekly prize of $195. Congratulations. The rest of the owners will be watching with interest in coming weeks hoping their player may bring them a little windfall.

Speaking of the first game it was fantastic to kick off the season with a win. Well done team. What an exciting game it was. Check the Match report.

From 18-02-2009 Training starts at 6:30pm

Training for 2009

Terry Lemon has taken the reins again as coach for 2009 despite rumours to the contrary over the off-season. After the premiership win last year the team is working to consolidate itself as one of the top teams is Division 4 again this year. Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:00pm at O'Connor Park during Daylight Saving is the place to be for the pre-season training. The first session will be 20 Jan 2009.
