Round 5 Wrap - The season so far...

Well the season is well underway and the Roos have a three/two win/loss record. As you can see the Fox Terrier has been slack on the footy front and there are no match reports so far. I have attended some of the games but usually end up with a job so I don't get to keep notes for a proper report. I also haven't made it to the pub after games to get the awards and this year there are so many I don't want to miss anyone.

All the excuses aside my impressions so far:

  • Well beaten by Belconnen in round 1. The Roos were under done and not working together as a team.
  • Didn't see the Coota game. Disappointed to lose this one.
  • Played well against Cooma. Awful day weather wise. Cooma were disappointed after their flying start to the season.
  • Got jumped by Murrumbidgee in the first quarter of round 4 but luckily the team settled down to run away with the game comfortably.
  • Round 5 was always going to be a win given Gungahlin's situation this year. The game helped the percentage.

The team has started to look good with some good individual performances and the team play starting to happen. The season gets interesting from here with some challenges ahead.

Round 6 against ANU is a must win game. It already seems like the top four is decided with Magpies, Goulburn, and Harman staking good claims and ANU performing well in fourth. The Roos must establish their superiority over ANU to push for a spot in the four. With Harman and Eastlake after that (before the bye) the Roos will be aiming for three wins. On form, the Harman game at Harman will be the hardest and the Roos will be looking to name their best side possible for that one.

The signs are positive but the real test will be the matches against the top four teams. Go the Roos!

We have had two 100 gamers so far this year and I believe there are some more to soon celebrate this milestone. Congratulations to Adrian Paull and Daniel Smith.

New Coach for 2010

Jason Anderson has taken up the mantle of coach of the Yass Roos for 2010. The position became vacant when Ben Serafin, last year's Captain/Coach, accepted employment in the Hunter Valley. With the help of Assistants Paul Smith (game day coach), Craig Smith, Mick Hadley and Cian Ebert, 'Ando' is aiming for another premiership as well as stabilising the club for the future so younger players coming through have somewhere to go. Good luck for 2010.

The first training run on Friday the 15th saw good numbers compared to last year with a couple of new faces already. I will report more on team makeup as the training gets more serious.

It is always exciting when pre-season begins. Footy is not far away!
